Bill Thayer Web Site

As a personal web site, the electronic source pointed to is an Ephemeral Source with limited utility. The materials presented, however, seem to have been meticulously transcribed. So, while the material is available, this is an exceptionally good site for certain journal articles.

This site is also exceptional because of its handling of copyright issues. From the sites creator: "In the case of articles originally published in the United States, the copyright of those of 1922 and earlier has lapsed; of those from 1923 to 1963 inclusive, they are in the public domain if the publisher failed to renew, which I have verified in each instance.

Verifying that the copyright of a work has not been renewed can be a time consuming (or expensive) proposition. The fact that Thayer has verified copyright was allowed to lapse for certain materials published after 1922, is significant.
