Robert Abell (d.1663), son of George and Frances Abell, immigrated in 1630 from England to Charlestown, Massachusetts, probably in the fleet of Governor Winthrop. Robert's wife was named Joanna, and they were probably married in England. Descendants and relatives lived in New England, New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Wisconsin, California and elsewhere. Some descendants immigrated to Ontario and elsewhere in Canada. Includes much ancestry and genealogical data to 1066 A.D. in England.
Evaluation as a Source
"A sound presentation of the descendants of Robert Abell is given in The Abell Family in America by Horace A. Abell and Lewis P. Abell (Rutland VT 1940) … including the discussion of a number of controversial points. (The information formation on Robert Abell's landholding in Rehoboth is taken from this volume, which includes many extracts from original records.) This volume also provides three generations of Abells in England ancestral to the immigrant." The Great Migration Begins, I:6.
