Researching the descendants of Colonel John SMITH and his wife, Margaret, who came from Ireland (possibly England), to Pennsylvania, then proved their importation in Orange County, Virginia in 1740.

John SMITH made oath that he imported himself, Margaret his wife, Abraham, Henry, Daniel, John & Joseph SMITH & Robert MC DOWEL, as his own Charges from Ireland to Philadelphia & from thence into this Colony & that this is the first time of his proving his & their rights in order to obtain land.--- Orange County, Virginia Order Book II, Circuit Court of Orange County, Orange, Virginia, 1740 p. 205

My direct line is through John & Margaret SMITH's son, Henry SMITH (1727 Ireland to 1792 South Carolina) and his wife Amy. They moved to South Carolina near the Broad River, which was later called Smith Ford in York County.

Their son was David SMITH (1761 Virginia to 1806 South Carolina)who married Barsheba HARRINGTON (1773 South Carolina to after 1840, Texas). Barsheba was the daughter of John HARRINGTON and Frances BURT.

Their son was General James SMITH (1792 South Carolina to 185 Henderson, Rusk, Texas). He married Hannah PARKER daughter of Isaiah and Betsy GUYTON PARKER.

Their son was Captain Henry Madison SMITH (1817 South Carolina to 1882 Texas). He married Sarah Susannah HALL, daughter of John & Susanna HALL.

Their son was Henry Mattison SMITH (1854 Texas to 1925. He died in Durango, Colorado, but lived across the state border in Cedar Hill, New Mexico). He married his double cousin (their fathers were brothers and their mothers were sisters)

Delila Jo SMITH (1857 Texas to 1927 Colorado, wife of Henry Mattison SMITH) was the daughter of Joseph P. SMITH (1825 Tennessee to 1860 Texas). Joseph P. SMITH was the son of General James SMITH and Hannah PARKER. His wife was Minerva Ann HALL (sister of Sarah Susannah HALL).

Their son was Carl LeRoy SMITH (1896 Texas to 1958 Utah). He married Ella May Wood (1903 New Mexico to 1990 Oregon)
