Here's the quick rundown on my Sayles family: Philip Sayles, son of William Sayles and Mary Ann Smelter, born in 1786. Philip married Mary Bibbs, 20 May 1815. Daughter Sarah Ann Sayles christened 19 March 1817 in Sheffield. Sarah married Charles Sayles on 29 March 1838 in Echington, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Son Frederick James Smelter Sayles born 26 June 1854 in Ecclesall Bierlow, Yorkshire. Frederick married Harriet Barlow, daughter of William Barlow and Sarah Laycock, on 5 July 1875 in Sheffield. They had six children, all of whom were given the middle name Smelter. My great-grandmother was their daughter Ellen Smelter Sayles, born 7 Apr 1879 in Nether Hallam, Yorkshire. The family came to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania about 1889. Ellen married Hugh Watt Mahorter in 1900. --Lauren 07:57, 7 May 2007 (MDT)
