Records/sources available
The following Strathclyde Area Records are available:
- Statutory Records (1855-2007) - digitised entries on computer
- Civil Registration for Births, Deaths and Marriages was introduced in 1855. These are the records of District Registrars.
- Census Records (1871, 1891, 1901 digitised entries on computer, 1881 index on separate computer system)
- These records are arranged by address within Census Districts. They hold a wealth of information - name, relationship to householder, age, marital status, occupation and parish of birth.
- Old Parochial registers (pre 1855) - Computer/Microfilm
- The Old Parish Registers list Church of Scotland baptisms, marriage proclamations and burials. In some areas these Registers may be incomplete.
Opening hours and costs
Strathclyde Area Genealogy Centre is open Monday to Friday, 9.30am - 4.00pm (except Public Holidays). Bookings are by appointment only, phone: 0141 287 8364. Due to high demand, the Centre recommends that you book early to avoid disappointment. The fee is £14.00 per day or part thereof (subject to change).
