The Norfolk Historical Society are the guardians of the museum and archives. Norfolk County owns the building and are responsible for the maintenance. The are otherwise independently operated and a Board of Directors oversee and guide the governance and operation of the museum and archives. Their mission is to promote awareness and understanding of all aspects of the County of Norfolk's heritage and history and to develop commitment to the preservation of artifacts and archives.

The Norfolk Historical Society Archives holdings include a wealth of research tools and aids for those seeking their family's Norfolk roots, such as the Walsh Papers, historical township records, old area records on microfilm, and several libraries, including a thriving Family Histories collection. Our Early American Library is recognised as one of the finest outside the United States. Their holdings are quite extensive.
