Town or Township [1 November 2012]

While Wikipedia lists Villenova as a town, it appears to be similar to a township, containing other communities. Should this place be treated as a township?

By this I mean that in some contained places, there would be no reference to Villenova.

This question came up as I reviewed sources for the rural Villenova Cemetery. In Find A Grave and the NY GenWeb, it is listed as being in Balcom, a community south of the graveyard. Others reference it as being in South Dayton.--RGMoffat 16:14, 1 November 2012 (EDT)
