St. Bride's Minor is a community (or civil parish) in Bridgend County Borough in south Wales. Located north of Bridgend town, it is made up of Sarn, a large housing estate, and the villages of Bryncethin and Abergarw. The old settlement of Ynysawdre is also within its bounds. The southern border of the community is defined by the M4 motorway. The eastern, and largest area of the community, consists of farmland and small scattered farm houses. At the 2001 UK census, the community's population was 5,575, increasing to 6,014 at the 2011 UK census.

On a modern atlas of the UK, St. Bride's Minor is not shown. It can be located by looking for "Sarn Park" service area on the M4 motorway.

Research Tips

  • GENUKI on Glamorgan Lots of leads to other sources and descriptions of former parishes.
  • The FamilySearch Wiki on Glamorgan has recently been updated (early 2016) and looks remarkably like Wikipedia. Their map "Glamorgan Parish Map.jpg" enlarges to show all the original parishes. The sub-section "Parishes of Historic Glamorgan" lists all the parishes of Glamorgan and the newer preserved counties and principal areas in both English and Welsh. (Currently this website is still under construction.)
