A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Woodrising from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1871-72:

"WOODRISING, a parish in Mitford [registration] district, Norfolk; 2 miles WNW of Hingham, and 4½ W by S of Hardingham [railway] station. Post town: Shipdham, under Thetford. Acres: 1,363. Real property: £1,925. Population: 97. Houses: 24. [Woodrising] Hall is the residence of Viscount Chelsea. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Norwich. Value: £250. Patron: J. Weyland, Esq. The church is good."

In 1935 Woodrising was abolished as a civil parish and was absorbed by the neighbouring parish of Cranworth.
