Woodhorn Demesne was a township in the ancient parish of Woodhorn. It became a separate civil parish in 1866. From 1894 until 1913 it was part of Morpeth Rural District. From 1913 until 1974 the civil parish became part of Newbiggin by the Sea urban district. In 1974 rural districts were abolished and Woodhorn Demesne became part of the Wansbeck District until 2009 when Northumberland became a unitary authority.(Source: A Vision of Britain through Time)
