A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Wickhampton from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1871-72:

"WICKHAMPTON, a parish in Blofield [registration] district, Norfolk; 2 miles NNE of Reedham [railway] station, and 4 S by E of Acle. Post town: Acle. Acres: 1,605. Real property: £3,264. Population: 119. Houses: 28. The property is divided among a few. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Norwich. Value: £195. Patron: H. M. Leathes, Esq. The church is ancient. There is a Methodist chapel."

Wickhampton was an ancient parish and a civil parish until 1935 when it was abolished and absorbed into Freethorpe parish. Since 1974 Freethorpe parish has itself been absorbed into Halvergate parish. The whole area has been part of the non-metropolitan Broadland District since 1974.
