NOTE: There is another village and parish named West Dean (near Chichester) in West Sussex. Do not confuse the two.

Westdean (or West Dean) is located on the edge of Friston Forest, not far from the parish of East Dean and Friston. Its church is dedicated to All Saints. It is now in the civil parish of Cuckmere Valley which was created in 1990 from Westdean, Lullington and Litlington parishes.

Archaeological remains nearer the coast at Exceat suggest a further settlement there in former times.
