Well (#28 on map) is now a civil parish and a small village in the Hambleton District of North Yorkshire, England It is about 4 miles south of Bedale (#3), near the parish of Snape with Thorp (#22) which was its township when Well was an ancient parish. The population taken at the 2011 UK census was 230.

The 'well' of Well is a spring which, along with several other springs, feeds the "beck" running through the village. There is a small church called St. Michael's. The village still has four almshouses called St Michael's Cottages with their own chapel. There is also a Methodist Chapel, which holds regular services.

GENUKI provides further information on the Neville family, an influential family from the Tudor period, and the foundation of the village school.

The village also has a number of walks with views across the area; on a clear day, the hill named Roseberry Topping is visible.

Prior to the nationwide municipal reorganization of 1974, Well was part of Bedale Rural District. Historically, it was an ancient and ecclesiastical parish in the wapentake of Hang East.
