Wayne County, founded in 1842, is the westernmost county located in the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of 2010, the population was 42,481. [1] Its county seat is Wayne.

Wayne County is a part of the Huntington-Ashland, WV-KY-OH, Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). As of the 2000 census, the MSA had a population of 288,649.
