Note: This is one of many places in Yorkshire named Wath. There are one or two more in Harrogate District, and the much larger Wath-upon-Dearne, now in South Yorkshire.

Wath is a very small settlement located 8 miles west-northwest of the town of Malton and 0.75 mile east-southeast of Hovingham. Prior to the nationwide municipal reorganization of 1974, Wath was located in Malton Rural District. Historically, it was located in the ecclesiastical parish of Hovingham in the Rydale Wapentake.
