Originally book-ended on the Northern and Southern city limits by twin signs which declared, "Welcome to Valley, Alabama, Where people care and share," the signs no longer stand, but the spirit remains. Located on Interstate 85 halfway between Montgomery, Alabama and Atlanta, Georgia, Valley is 75 miles southwest of Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and 85 miles northeast of Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM) in Montgomery. The city lies on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, the state border between Alabama and Georgia. The Kia Motors automotive plant is located 7 miles to the east on I-85. Valley is an "Alabama Community of Excellence", one of only eight in the state. It is the principal city of and is included in the Valley, Alabama Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is included in the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Gainesville, GA-AL CSA Combined Statistical Area.
