Thornton Steward is a small village and civil parish in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire, England, near Wensleydale, with a population of 100-200. The village is very similar to the others that dot Wensleydale but Thornton Steward however has a reservoir owned by Yorkshire Water.

Prior to the nationwide municipal reorganization of 1974, Thornton Steward was located in Leyburn Rural District. Historically, it was an ecclesiastical parish in the Hang West Wapentake.
