Sumter County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Carolina. It and its county seat of Sumter are named for Revolutionary War General Thomas Sumter. The 2010 census recorded its population to be 107,456. In July 1, 2010, the U.S. Census Bureau estimated that its population had reached 107,570. It is included in the Sumter Metropolitan Statistical Area.
It is the home of Shaw AFB, part of the 20th Fighter Wing & Headquarters to the 9th Air Force and the Third Army as of August 2011.
