Stretton-on-Fosse is a village in the Stratford District in Warwickshire, England. It is situated between the towns of Moreton-in-Marsh and Shipston-on-Stour. The village is situated along the ancient Fosse Way road which runs from Exeter in Devon to Lincoln in Lincolnshire. The road bypasses the village to the east and is now the modern-day A439 road. The village is close to the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire border. While the lower ground of the village is heavy clay the upper parts are composed of sand and shingle. During commercial extraction of sand important graves of the Roman-British and Anglo-Saxon periods were uncovered and interesting skeletons and personal belongings were unearthed. These burials were the result of internecine warfare between local tribal factions.

Stretton on Fosse was originally a chapelry, but became an ancient parish by the end of the 14th century. It was located in the Kington Hundred of Warwickshire, England.

It was made a civil parish in the middle of the 19th century and in 1894 became part of the Brailes Rural District. In 1931 Brailes Rural District was abolished and Stretton on Fosse was transferred to Shipston on Stour Rural District. Since 1974 it has been in the Borough of Stratford on Avon.

There is no evidence that Stretton on Fosse was ever in Gloucestershire, but Shipston on Stour, which is east of Stretton on Fosse, was in a detached part of Gloucestershire until 1894 when the county borders were redrawn.

The website is very useful for finding the ecclesiastical individual parishes within large cities and towns.
• A Vision of Britain through Time, Warwickshire, section "Units and Statistics" leads to analyses of population and organization of the county from about 1800 through 1974. There are pages available for all civil parishes, municipal boroughs and other administrative divisions. Descriptions provided are usually based on a gazetteer of 1870-72 which often provides brief notes on the economic basis of the settlement and significant occurences through its history.

The oldest series are very clear at the third magnification offered. Comparing the map details with the GENUKI details for the same area is well worthwhile.
