The following description from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72 is provided by the website A Vision of Britain Through Time (University of Portsmouth Department of Geography).

"STONETON, an extra-parochial tract in the [registration] district of Banbury and county of Northampton; 8½ miles SW of Daventry."

A Vision of Britain Through Time also states that Stoneton became a civil parish in 1858. It became a part of Southam Rural District in Warwickshire in 1894. This is confirmed by the Ordnance Survey map of Warwickshire for 1900.

At some point in the late 19th century, possibly in 1894 when there were numerous boundary changes under the Local Government Act 1894, the border between Northamptonshire and Warwickshire was redrawn, transferring Stoneton from Northamptonshire to Warwickshire. Stoneton is a hamlet and manor in Warwickshire, England. It lies just to the northeast of Wormleighton. It was documented in the Domesday Book. From the late 15th century onwards the wealthy Spencer family owned land here, and owned the manor in conjunction with nearby Wormleighton Manor. Little remains of the original village, which lies in a field next to the manor.
