Smithton is a city in Pettis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 570 at the 2010 census. The town was used as a point where farmers could load crops or livestock onto trains departing for Sedalia were they would be sent to their final destination. After the industrial revolution, the city's population dropped considerably.
