Scotlandwell is a village in the parish of Portmoak where the parish church is located.
As the name implies Scotlandwell is home to a well where King Robert the Bruce is reputed to have been cured of leprosy by drinking the waters. At one time it was an important monastic centre, where the monks ran a hospital here from which patients took the spring water as part of their treatment. Pilgrims journeyed from as far as St. Andrews for the cure. [edit] Research TipsRefer to Portmoak and Kinross-shire pages. |
