Schaghticoke is a village in Rensselaer County, New York, USA. The population was 592 at the 2010 census. The Natives at Schaghticoke included Mohicans, Abenakis, Cahoos, Pennacooks, Wampanoags, Naraganests, Sokokis, Nipmucs and others. This mixed group, which was at times 1000 men strong, were the dominant Native Americans of the area from circa 1640 -1750. While they paid tribute to the Iroquois it was not until after 1750 that history forgot and ignored these people and made the claim that this was the "Fruitful Hunting Ground of the Iroquois". By 1750 the majority of the area had been sold to European settlers so when the last of the Schaghticoke group left to move north the Iroquois laid claim to what was left. One last attempt in 1758 by the Iroquois to lay claim to the area ended in 1769 with the payment of 5000 pieces of Spanish Gold for the area of the Kaydeross Patent.

The Village of Schaghticoke is in the Town of Schaghticoke, near the east town line. Schaghticoke is west of the Village of Valley Falls.

The village was previously called "Harts Falls" and was incorporated under that name in 1867, then was reincorporated as "Schaghticoke" in 1881.
