São Pedro (Portuguese meaning Saint Peter) is a civil parish in the municipality of Funchal in the islands of Madeira. In 2001, the parish had approximately 7681 inhabitants located to the north of the coastal centre of Funchal, in an area of the area is 1.49 km² (its density was 5155 people per km²): it is one of the smallest parishes on the island. São Pedro is located north of Sé and central to the municipality, surrounded by the parishes of Santo António, Santa Luzia, Imaculado Coração de Maria, São Roque and São Martinho. Its central place means that it is at the heart of the commerce and tourism in Funchal, and linked to many of the neighboring communities by the major regional roadway that circles the island. São Pedro has a school, a lyceum, a gymnasium, and a church.
