NOTE: There is another Prestwood further south in Staffordshire near Kinver and Kingswinford.

Prestwood was one of the civil parishes of Mayfield Rural District which existed from 1894 until 1934. It was transferred to Uttoxeter Rural District in 1934. In the nationwide municipal reorganization of 1974 it was merged into the parish of Ellastone. The area is now part of the Staffordshire Moorlands municipal district.

According to John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72 (provided by A Vision of Britain through Time), Prestwood was considered part of Ellaston in the 19th century:

"PRESTWOOD, a township in Ellastone parish, Stafford; 6½ miles N of Uttoxeter. Population: 55. Houses: 11."
