Pilot Mountain is a town in Surry County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,281 at the 2000 census. It is named for the nearby landmark of Pilot Mountain, a distinctive geological formation. It is believed to be the inspiration for the fictional town of Mt. Pilot on The Andy Griffith Show and Mayberry RFD.
