History

From 10 Nov 1856 to 7 Apr 1925 a U.S. Post Office was located here.[1] In the 1925 Tri-State Tornado, 95% of the community was destroyed. At that time, the population of the community was about 300. Most of the 22 casualties were women and preschool children. Only 3 of the 45 town structures were left standing, the schoolhouse, a church and the home of the Clarence Lowman family.[2]
