St. Mary Magdalene has been the university church from an early date. The parish included part of the township of Littlemore 2½ miles east of Oxford. Littlemore remained part of St. Mary's parish until 1847 when it became a separate ecclesiastical parish. | Location | Bounded on the north by Oxford St. Mary Magdalene, on the east by Oxford St. Peter in the East, on the south by Oxford St. John the Baptist and the grounds of Oxford Cathedral, and on the west by Oxford All Saints and Oxford St. Michael.
| Later History | Civil parish absorbed into the civil parish of Oxford in 1926. Ecclesiastical parish continued to exist. A proposal of 1932 to unite the benefice of St. Mary's with the joint benefice of St. Peter-in-the-East and St. Cross was effected only in 1966.
