[edit] Township of OliveOlive is a township situated in the southwestern part of the county of Noble, state of Ohio, United States of America. It is bounded on the north by the townships of Noble and Center; on the east by the township of Enoch; on the southeastern corner by the township of Jefferson; on the south by the township of Jackson; and on the west by the township of Sharon. The first courts of Noble County were held in the village of Olive, and the township has been the location of the county seat since it was removed from Sarahsville to Caldwell after 1854. [edit] HistoryOlive Township was initially organized on 3 June 1816 in Guernsey County from a part of the township of Buffalo, which was erected in 1810. The Guernsey county line, prior to the erecting of Morgan County in 1817, ran east and west through the center of what is now Olive Township. The original Olive Township probably extended westwardly and northwardly several miles. Olive was taken from Morgan County when Noble County was erected in 1851. [edit] BoundariesWhen the boundaries of Olive Township were set by the commissioners of Morgan County, the township included a full congressional township (township 6, range 9) of thirty-six sections. On 1 May 1851, the commissioners of Noble County altered the township's boundaries, taking one and a half tier of sections from the west side of the township to erect the new Sharon Township, making them as follows: Commencing at the southeast corner of section 36, in township 6 of range 9; thence north to the northeast corner of said township 6 of range 9; thence west along said township line to the northwest corner of the east half of section 5 in said township 6 and range 9; thence south through the center of sections 5, 8, 17, 20, 29 and 32 to the southwest corner of the east half of section 32 in said township 6 and range 9; thence along said township line to the place of beginning; containing twenty-seven sections.
