Research Tips

The town of Oglesby, Georgia was originally known as Doves Creek. It lies in western Elbert County, close to the Madison County line, and Dove[s] Creek, a tributary of Broad River, flows through it. The lands were owned by Thomas Oglesby, a Revolutionary Soldier from Campbell County, Virginia, who purchased 250 acres on Pennington's Fork of Doves Creek from Elizabeth Cunningham on December 3, 1796.
