North Devon District is the name of a local government district covering the most northern part of the English county of Devon which has a sea coast on the Bristol Channel. Its council is based in Barnstaple. Other towns and villages in the North Devon District include Braunton, Fremington, Ilfracombe, Instow, South Molton, Lynton and its partner village of Lynmouth.

The district was formed on 1 April 1974 and included the following municipalities:

The map reproduced here was found at the North Devon District page on Wikipedia. All the parishes of the district are reproduced, but because of the size of the district they are illegible here. Anyone interested in inspecting the detail is advised to find the image in Wikipedia (fairly far down the page opposite the "Governance" section) and click to obtain a larger image where the font is still extremely small but legible. The reason for including it is that some parishes have been found to have been redrawn since the formation of the North Devon District. The parish of Charles which was in South Molton Rural District prior to 1974 has completley disappeared and been divided between the parishes of Brayford and East and West Buckland. There may be other examples.
