Township of Noble

Noble is a township situated in the western part of the county of Noble, state of Ohio, United States of America. It is bounded on the north by the township of Buffalo; on the east by the township of Center; on the south by the townships of Olive and Sharon; and on the west by the township of Brookfield. It shares one mile of its northern boundary with the county of Guernsey and its township of Spencer.

History

Noble was organized in 1819 as a township of Morgan County and included a full congressional township (township 7, range 9) of thirty-six sections. On 1 April 1851, it was taken when Noble County was erected and organized.

Boundaries

On 1 May 1851, the commissioners of Noble County altered the township's boundaries, taking one tier of sections from Brookfield Township on the west and giving up two tiers of sections to the new Center Township on the east, making them as follows:

Commencing at the southeast corner of section 34, in township 7, of range 9; thence north to the northeast corner of section 3, in said township 7, range 9; thence west along the township line to the northwest corner of section 1, in township 7, of range 10; thence south along section lines to the southwest corner of section 36, in said township 7, range 10; thence east along the township line to the place of beginning; containing thirty sections.

Inhabited Places

Belle Valley, an incorporated village, was platted in 1875. Its post office was established in 1872.
