Netherton is a village and civil parish in the English county of Northumberland. The population of the village at the 2011 UK census was 185. In its article on the county of Northumberland, Wikipedia notes that Netherton had a colliery.

Located 6 1⁄2 miles (10.5 km) northwest of the town of Rothbury, Netherton is close to the Anglo-Scottish border. Historically it was part of the parish of Alwinton in which it formed the townships of Netherton North Side and Netherton South Side. Also in the civil parish is the settlement of Netherton Burnfoot.

A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Netherton from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"NETHERTON-NORTH-SIDE and N.-SOUTH-SIDE, two townships in Alwinton parish, Northumberland; on a branch of the river Coquet, 6½ miles N W of Rothbury. Population: 76 and 75. Houses: 14 and 17."

From 1894 until 1955 Netherton North Side and Netherton South Side were part of Rothbury Rural District. Netherton was created from them in 1955. At the same time the neighbouring parish of High and Low Trewhitt was also absorbed into Netherton. In 1974 rural districts were abolished and Netherton became part of the Alnwick District until 2009 when Northumberland became a unitary authority.
