Nelson is a town in Madison County, New York, United States. The population was 1,980 at the 2010 census. The town was named after Horatio Nelson, the English naval hero.

The Town of Nelson is an interior town, located in the southwest part of the county.

The town was formed in 1807 from the Town of Cazenovia, the year after Madison County was established.

The Nelson Welsh Congregational Church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
