Muscoates is near Nunnington, about four miles south of Kirkbymoorside in the North Riding of Yorkshire (now North Yorkshire). The Google Earth view is of a group of farm buildings.

A Vision of Britain through Time provides this description of Muscoates from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales (1870-72):

"MUSCOATES, a township in Kirkdale parish, [North Riding of] Yorkshire; on a branch of the river Wye, 5½ miles E S E of Helmsley. Acres: 947. Population: 64. Houses: 10.

Prior to the nationwide municipal reorganization of 1974, Muscoates was part of Kirkbymoorside Rural District. Historically, it was located in the ecclesiastical parish of Kirkdale in the Rydale Wapentake.
