This township was originally established in Wayne county on 11 Apr 1812. Mohican changed names to Perry on 14 Sep 1814. On 24 Feb 1846, Wayne county lost part of its western border to Ashland county, Ohio. Townships that became part of Ashland county included Lake, Mohican, Perry, and Jackson.
