Marengo is a city in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,648 at the 2010 census. [edit] History
The land which was to become Marengo (but was originally known as Pleasant Grove, and sometimes called Jefferson) was purchased from the Potowatami Native Americans in 1832 and Marengo was established as a township in 1835. In addition the only school designed by architect Louis Sullivan was built in Marengo (it was demolished in 1993 to build a McDonald's). [edit] Research Tips
