Research Tips

In 1700s it was referred to as Dutch Valley, a corruption of the German word "Deutsch" meaning German. (see Mortimer, Benjamin. 1798. Journal. In: Wallace, P. A. W. (ed.) Thirty thousand miles with John Heckewelder. 1958. Pittsburgh University Press, Pittsburgh p. 407.)
