Llanengan (Welsh for "St. Einion's") is a small village and community (or parish) 1.2 mi (1.9 km) based around Abersoch in Gwynedd in north Wales (before 1974 the historic county of Caernarvonshire). It had a population of 2,024 at the 2001 UK census, reducing to 1,989 at the 2011 census. The parish church is dedicated to Saint Einion Frenin. Established in the late 5th or early 6th century and rebuilt in the late 15th or early 16th, it is one of the oldest churches on the Llŷn Peninsula. Lead was formerly obtained from a lead mine just outside the village. A chimney can be seen on the left from the road to Porth Neigwl ("Hell's Mouth") which marks the entrance to the former lead workings. In 1934 part of the parish of Llangïan, north of Abersoch, was absorbed into Llanengan. Wikipedia has an article on Abersoch. [edit] Research Tips
