GENUKI provides the following notes on the Church of England churches in the city of Leicester.

Leicester anciently had only 6 parishes:

  • Saint Mary's (north of the Newarke),
  • All Saints' (in High Cross street),
  • Saint Leonard's (destroyed in 1645),
  • Saint Margaret's (by Sanvey Gate),
  • Saint Martin's Collegiate (Town Hall Lane), and
  • Saint Nicholas (said to be the oldest church in Leicester).

The chapter, The ancient borough: St. Leonard's from the Victoria County History of Leicestershire, Volume 4, provided by British History Online, gives a longer description.
