Leavening is a village and a civil parish in the Ryedale District in North Yorkshire, about 12 miles from the city of York.

Prior to the nationwide municipal reorganization of 1974, Leavening was located in Norton Rural District. Historically, it was located in the ecclesiastical parish of Acklam in the Buckrose Wapentake.
