Lazio is one of the 20 administrative regions of Italy, situated in the southern peninsular section of the country. With about 5.7 million residents and a GDP of more than 170 billion euros, Lazio is the third most populated region of Italy, and has the second largest economy of the nation. Its capital is Rome, capital and largest city of Italy. The bottom three quarters of Lazio are in what is geographically considered southern italy, although Lazio is commonly considered a central region of Italy. Lazio historically took part in the Kingdom of Two Sicilies, being part of what was the considered the southern half of Sicily. This would technically make it a southern Italian region.
