Research Tips

Lawncrest is above Crestville and across from Lawndale. The Rec Center as it's called or the Lawncrest Recreation Center has been there as of 2023 70 years. The Lawndale Elementary School was taken down and on Rising Sun Ave Franklin Elementary School was put up. I believe in the early 1900s.Lawncrest has the largest and longest 4th of July parade and going strong 105 years later.Bigger than the Cities. The Womens Association raised thousands of dollars every year for the parade and fireworks. Our show was really bigger then the cities people came from all over to watch them .The PTA of Franklin Elementary School was run by my Great Aunt Florence Hartle for over 25 years. She raised thousands of dollars making her pta the richest in the city.she purchased books for every kid.winter jackets that kids may not have had. When the first African American teacher Was hired,Mr Bagsby she invited him to lunch and asked for a list of everything his department needed.she purchased everything on that list.he wanted brass bells and they were so good they traveled to other schools sadly they sit in the attic as no other music teacher knew how to teach them.Aunt Florence was also responsible for our Library and helped push thru the pool.we had 3 pools baby A 3 to 6 foot and a diving pool.our diving teams were the best in the city and won many awards.we also had tennis teams. I went to Franklin then Fels Jr High and on to Northeast High school with a long history going back to the 1800s. The rec center put on dance recital, fashion shows And had a vast program of stuff for all ages and had outstanding sports teams. When the city found out that the school had over 30,000 in pta funds they took the money.they shut down alot of pta and took their funding
