Killerby is mentioned by GENUKI as a small settlement in the ecclesiastical parish of Catterick in the wapentake of Hang East.

From Vision of Britain

John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales (1870-72) described Killerby as "a township in Catterick parish, N. R. Yorkshire; on the river Swale, 2 miles SE by E of Catterick. Acres, 712. Pop., 56. Houses, 11."

Prior to the nationwide municipal reorganization of 1974, Killerby was, despite its size, a civil parish in Bedale Rural District.
