Khartoum is one of the 15 states of Sudan. It has an area of 22,122 km2 and an estimated population of approximately 7,152,102 (2008). Khartoum, the national capital of Sudan, is the capital of the Khartoum State. The state of Khartoum is divided into seven localities:

  • al-Kharṭoum Locality (محلية الخرطوم)
  • al-Kharṭoum Baḥrī Locality (محلية الخرطوم بحري)
  • Umdurmān Locality (محلية أمدرمان)
