Huerfano County (pronounced in Spanish /'we̞ɾfäno̞/) is one of the 64 counties of the State of Colorado of the United States. The county, whose name is pronounced locally as WAR-fuh-no, was named for the Huerfano Butte, a local landmark. The county population was 7,862 at U.S. Census 2000. The county seat is Walsenburg. In 2010, the census population dropped to 6,711.
