Carlton Highdale (#6 on map) is a civil parish in Coverdale, in the Richmondshire District of North Yorkshire, England. According to the 2001 UK census it had a population of 95. Given its population, the parish would have joined with a neighbouring parish for the publication of data for the 2011 UK census. For Carlton Highdale this would probably have been Carlton Town (#7) whose recorded population in 2011 was 232.

The parish covers the uppermost (southernmost) part of the dale, and is drained by the River Cover. Hamlets in the parish are Woodale, Braidley, Horsehouse, Gammersgill and Swineside.

The parish was historically part of the manor of Carlton in the large ancient parish of Coverham. At some time the manor was divided into two manors (each was also a township) named Carlton Town (the village of Carlton) and Carlton Highdale (the remaining part). In 1866 Carlton Highdale became a separate civil parish.

Between 1894 and 1974 (prior to the nationwide municipal reorganization), Carlton Highdale was located in Leyburn Rural District.

The statistics are returned with the parish. The living is a [perpetual] curacy, annexed to the [perpetual] curacy of Coverham, in the diocese of Ripon."
