Hanworth lies to the south east of Feltham in the London Borough of Hounslow. The name is thought to come from the Anglo Saxon words “haen” and “worth”, meaning “small homestead”.

The nearest places are Hampton, Hampton Hill, Feltham, Sunbury-on-Thames, Whitton, Twickenham, Teddington and Heathrow Airport.

Hanworth is one of the ancient parishes of Middlesex. From 1894 to 1930 it was part of Staines Rural District and from 1930 it was part of Feltham Urban District. In 1965, Feltham Urban District was abolished, becoming part of the London Borough of Hounslow.
