Hammerwich is a village and civil parish since 1974 in Lichfield District in Staffordshire, England. It is situated to the south east of Burntwood. In the 2001 census it had a population of 3,420.

In 1934 the parish was enlarged by the abolition of Ogley Hay Rural parish.

The name may derive from the Old English hamor ("by a hill") and wic ("place"), or possibly, 'a smith's workshop' or 'a hammer-making workshop'.

Charcoal burning, nail making, agriculture and coal mining have all been prevalent in the village over the years.
