Hamilton Township is a township in Atlantic County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township's population was 26,503,[1][2][3] reflecting an increase of 6,004 (+29.3%) from the 20,499 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 4,487 (+28.0%) from the 16,012 counted in the 1990 Census. The Township of Hamilton was incorporated by the New Jersey Legislature on February 5, 1813.[4] At , Hamilton Township has the largest land area of any municipality in New Jersey. However, with a total area of it is the second-largest municipality in New Jersey in terms of total area, more than smaller than neighboring Galloway Township, which has a total area of .[5] Mays Landing (with a Census 2010 population of 2,135) is a census-designated place located within Hamilton Township[5][6] that has been the county seat of Atlantic County since 1837.
